SSRSANY Membership Benefits Include:
~ Monthly bulletins to keep you informed
~ Meetings with speakers with topics to assist and educate
~ Best country outing & clambake in the state!
~ Legislative watchdogs in both Albany and Washington DC
~ 20 Programs that benefit you and save your business big money:
A. Our agreement with co-card systems allows our members to have preferential credit card rates. In addition, you can save money by accepting debit cards with the use of a pin pad. Other services include check guarantees, pay at the pump and prepaid MasterCard's. These prepaid cards are great for resale and continue to pay you every time the recipient has the card reloaded. Some businesses have their bookkeepers or payroll service use these cards on a weekly basis replacing checks for the payment of their company's payroll. Co-card systems offer exclusively the patent pending credit report and patented transaction systems. This allows the tow truck operator or service technician to accept credit cards at the scene with a cell phone.

B. SSOASNY offers our membership multiple health insurance programs that give you the choice to pick the best plan for you. We even offer a medical savings account. Our programs let you chose your deductible amount and decide what doctors you want to use.

C. We have access to NYS mandated disability insurance that allows males and females coverage at great prices. Even a sole proprietor with no employees can qualify for this coverage.

D. We offer business insurance liability packages from various companies. To get a realistic quote based on your actual business call the association office. We deal with a number of different companies and agents. We call upon their expertise to give you the best for less.

E. Want a free benefit for your employees? Our empire vision program offers discounted rates to members, their employees and their families. What a needed program- and, it costs the employer nothing!

F. Our members get special discounted rates with our parts washer, gun cleaner, brake washer, oil filter and solvent pick-up program. No set pick up date- you call when you need a change of fluid or a pick up of a waste. Both equipment and fluid are available.

G. New York State requires workers' compensation for all private businesses. Our members can join our workers' compensation group #536. It gives you a 20% discount up front and has paid a dividend every year in our twelve-year history. The savings from this plan pays you dues.

H. The Charles Kellogg scholarship, named for our former president, is given to a daughter or son of a member in good standing and who is continuing education after high school. No financial info is required.

I. We have educational programs unparalleled in most of New York State and the nation in general. In addition to our monthly bulletins and meetings, we go above and beyond the call of duty. We have conducted over 110 all day automotive mechanical and managerial training seminars since 1975. We are working for you so you can work smarter, not harder!

J. We have provided information and the required annual training for hazardous communications and the employee right-to know since 1988. Our assistance in helping with written OSHA programs for our members has saved them many $$$. We have established training for our members in eight required OSHA areas for our industry.

K. Need help in planning for retirement, key man insurance and much more? the insurance agents we recommend can help.

L. Want another free program offered by your membership? we have joined with the hertz corporation auto rental discount program. You can get upgrades to a larger car, a free child seat or just save money on a weekly or weekend rental while taking advantage of ongoing member discounts. (Call the office to get your hertz membership card today.)

M. We are now certified to teach the sales clerk tobacco-training course recommended by the New York state department of health. We have a tobacco policy manual that can be adopted by stores for new clerk orientation and for annual review for established clerks. These lessen the chance of the sale of tobacco to minors and protect both your tobacco and lottery licenses. (Call the office for more info.)

N. When is a payroll service more than a payroll service: When it embodies all we want. We were not happy with several payroll companies we dealt with in the past, but now we think we have joined forces with the best. A number of our members now using ADP's services agree. So what does ADP do? They customize simple reports and on demand reports, date track, use bonded couriers, take liability for quarterly and end of the year filings, do multiple direct deposits and even can use reloadable prepaid MasterCards to pay your employees if you so desire.

O. We offer the NYSASSRS/NAPA major account program. Our State Association and NAPA set up this program. It provides a complete, competitive supply program designed to boost backroom profits. Qualifying members get an extra 2% back. (Call the office for details).

P. We keep many of the required forms on hand, and will help fill them out. We collect data to better represent you and your business in Albany with the DMV, DEC, Departments of Labor, Health, Weights and Measures, etc. We help you stay in business!

Current Goal of SSRSANY
Currently our major goal is:
~ To get an OBDII emission testing program that is workable, and to establish a fee that is fair to the public and yet compensates the inspection station for his investment of both time and money

What Have We Done To Achieve This Goal?
1. Meetings were held with the department of motor vehicles and department of environmental conservation concerning the proposed OBDII program as early as 2001.
2. Rather than the $6,000.00 - $8,000.00 Test and repair equipment proposed by DEC - DMV, we urged them to include test only in the program. Many shops have the proper equipment to make the OBDII required repairs. Equipment duplication made no sense and the cost to small shops would have put them out of the inspection business. (Remember, you don't have to be able to repair the failed car to be an inspection site, just test and pass or reject.)
3. We collected data on several occasions and gave input as to what would be needed for the inspection station if it was to participate in this federally mandated program.
4. We reviewed the proposed educational program for OBDII and deemed it to be too costly. We will be offering an excellent, but more economical training in the fall of this year.
5. Our first of many meetings with our members with this as the key topic was in December of 2003. Our members found that little new information was conveyed at this meeting because our mailings had allowed them to know what was happening. Nonmembers were in the dark about the new program, equipment necessary and costs of both that equipment and the education that the program would require if the proper repairs were to be made to the vehicles who's systems failed.
6. We have called for public hearings to be held across the state, not just in Albany.
7. We have educated and enlisted the assistance of our elected legislators to put pressure on the commissioner and governor to give us a larger fee and hold the program up until it is actually ready to be implemented. It is totally unfair for you to be told you must buy the equipment and then you cannot use it until they tell you to. What kind if responsible action is that?
8. We have set up a meeting with the help of our concerned legislators for later this month (July) to discuss our strong dissatisfaction with the proposed $5.00 Fee increase and other aspects of its implementation.
9. We are responsible for the upcoming traveling of the OBDII machine to areas of the state away from the district offices. We insisted that these visitations take place so that potential OBDII inspection shops would be able to see and touch the equipment so they might know if the basic equipment will most efficiently fit their needs. (In some cases, the optional upgrades make the most sense for most locations.) Call the association office for details.
10. Remember, we can't do it alone. Please call our office at 607 523-8341, or e-mail us at ssrsany@aol.com. We need you to help us help you now.
The comment period for the program ends soon - 8/9/04. Don't complain later if you don't help now.
